The Usher Ministry plays a vital role in the church’s hospitality and welcome system, and ushers fulfil specific duties to achieve their objectives. Ushers help our first time guests, special guests, repeat visitors, and members experience the sacredness and joy of a worship service.
The Usher Ministry serves – and collaborates with – various other ministries within the church. There is no direct biblical reference to ushers, however, the idea of doorkeeper and controller of decorum of the sanctuary is a good biblical parallel. Over time, the traditional roles of helping with seating and collecting the offering – among myriad other functions – became associated with ushers.
At FCDC, we operate under the guiding principle of ‘SERVE’.
S.E.R.V.E. = Serve Everyone (with) Reverence, Vigilance & Enthusiasm.
Jesus gives us the perfect example: The King came to serve, not to be served (Matthew 20:28). Our Lord invites all to come to Him (John 4 v 4–42). We therefore make space in the pews for all, and serve with devotion while maintaining our alertness and passion.
