More than 20 persons have received practical training in first-aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), through a partnership between St. John Ambulance and the Faith Cathedral Deliverance Centre (FCDC).
The initiative was organised by the church’s Health and Wellness Ministry and the Education Council. The CPR and first-aid responders were given their certification during the worship service at the church’s 104 Waltham Park Road headquarters in Kingston on Sunday.
Head of the church’s Education Council, Dr. Paulette Feraria noted that St. John Ambulance is primarily staffed by volunteers and has a proud record of service to the community. “The organisation has a wide range of outreach programmes that target the most vulnerable. Its mission aligns well with the outreach thrust of the church, and Faith Cathedral Deliverance Centre is proud of this partnership,” she said prior to the presentation of certificates to the participants.
“Today marks a significant step towards equipping members of our church and the wider community for efficient and effective first-aid lifesaving service to mankind,” she said.
The training sessions were held on February 2 and 9 this year. Training was facilitated by Karen Chen-Beswick, a member of the church’s Health and Wellness Ministry and St John Ambulance. Of the 21 persons who were trained, 17 are now certified as first aiders and CPR responders. They will be able to operate locally and internationally.
Head of the church’s Health and Wellness Ministry, Tricia-Ann Murray, said plans are currently underway to host another training session. The courses will be offered in June in the church’s Fellowship Hall. The training will cost $5500 and this will cover the cost for training material, certification, mouthpiece, and meals.
The Health and Wellness Ministry and Education Council are two of 36 ministries that operate under the auspices of FCDC.
